2026 WCQ: Super Eagles receive double boost ahead of South Africa match

The Super Nigeria have received positive injury news ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Friday night.

This comes after AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze and Boavista’s Chidozie Awaziem was declared fit for the game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Chukwueze had overcame a hamstring injury only to sustain a minor knock in a recent training session.

However, he has since recovered and is ready for play against South Africa.

Awaziem, who had been training separately due to discomfort, is also fit to play after overcoming a stomach upset.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have been hit by the absence of key players such as Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, Zaidu Sanusi, Ola Aina, and William Troost-Ekong.

Despite this, the team welcomes the return of Victor Boniface and Wilfred Ndidi.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the match on Friday, Super Eagles coach Finidi George expressed confidence in the readiness of his squad.

He confirmed that Chukwueze and Awaziem are available for selection.

“All the players are ready. Chukwueze had a knock but trained properly yesterday, so he’s good to go. Chidozie had a stomach upset, but he’s fine now,” Finidi said.
