In an unexpected twist, Barcelona is reportedly considering Darwin Nunez from Liverpool as a potential replacement for aging attacker Robert Lewandowski, as both clubs brace for significant changes this summer.
With La Liga imposing a tightened salary cap of £174 million, Barcelona faces the imminent departure of high-earning players like Lewandowski, despite his impressive performance at 36 years old, boasting 24 goals and nine assists in 45 appearances this season.
According to The Sun, Barcelona’s interest in Nunez dates back to their near-acquisition of the forward four years ago during his tenure at Almeria.
Despite Nunez’s hefty salary of £7 million, he remains an appealing and financially viable option for Barcelona.
However, Liverpool might be hesitant to part with the Uruguayan, having secured him from Benfica just two years ago in a record-breaking deal valued at up to £85 million.
