West Ham United manager, David Moyes, has attributed his team’s poor away performances to the departure of Declan Rice.
Rice, who left for Arsenal last summer in a record-breaking £105 million deal, has proven instrumental to the Gunners’ title pursuit this season.
Demonstrating his prowess, the English midfielder not only scored and assisted but also earned the man of the match accolade in Arsenal’s recent 3-0 victory over Bournemouth.
However, Moyes witnessed his team suffer a devastating 5-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea just a day later.
In response to inquiries about West Ham’s struggles this season, Moyes pointed to Rice’s absence, emphasizing his role as the country’s premier midfield player, crucial for defensive stability.
Moyes lamented the team’s lack of protection in front of the back four and their insufficient defensive prowess in numerous matches.
When asked why West Ham are struggling this season, Moyes said at his post-match interview: “Declan Rice.
“When you’ve got the best midfield player in the country protecting, probably limiting 50 per cent of their attacks it makes you much a better defensive team.
“We’ve lacked protection in front of the back four, lacked good enough defending, not been good enough at those things in many games.”
