The Super Eagles are facing internal strife just days before their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa, as assistant coach Daniel Amokachi remains conspicuously absent.
Amokachi’s no-show has sparked doubts about his commitment to the team, exacerbated by reports from Soccernet indicating that he has turned down the contract proposed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
This development has intensified rumours of a rift between Amokachi and head coach Finidi George.
Amokachi was appointed as one of Finidi’s assistants alongside Benjamin James, Olatunji Baruwa, Chima Onyeike, and Mehmet Ozturk.
However, speculation abounds that the NFF forced Amokachi’s appointment on Finidi.
In response to these claims, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau dismissed the allegations, stating, “I was very pleased when we introduced Finidi to Nigeria.
“The NFF Technical Director compiled the list, and they selected the best candidates. All the assistants chosen for Finidi were selected by him.”
