Manchester City star, Phil Foden has said he “feels sorry” for England head coach Gareth Southgate.
Southgate has come under heavy criticism from media and fans over his team selection and tactics at the Euro 2024 so far.
Southgate’s side topped Group C despite scoring only two goals, before scraping through their last-16 game against Slovakia in extra time.
Speaking ahead of England’s last-8 tie with Switzerland on Saturday, Foden also called on his teammates to step up.
“I feel sorry for Gareth. In training, he has been telling us to press and be high up on the pitch and I feel like sometimes, it has to come from the players,” Foden said.
“We have to be leaders. In games we could have got together a little bit more and worked out a solution.
“So yes, we have spoken about it more. If it happens again in a game, we can get together and find a solution, see where it is going wrong and adapt our press.”
