Euro 2024: ‘Huge respect’ – Rio Ferdinand singles out two Portugal stars after France defeat

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has singled out Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe for praise after Portugal were eliminated from Euro 2024 at hands of France.

Portugal lost 5-3 on penalties to France in the last-8 on Friday night.

The match had ended 0-0 after 120 minutes.

Following the encounter, Pepe was captured on camera crying as Ronaldo consoled him.

The former Real Madrid defender became the oldest player at the European Championship at 41 years, while Ronaldo himself is 39.

The Euro 2024 could be their last tournament with the Portugal national team.

“It is testament to those guys [Ronaldo and Pepe], the professionalism and dedication to their craft,” Ferdinand said on TNT Sports.

“To get to that stage of a tournament at that age and to perform, especially Pepe – huge respect.”
