Former head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh has picked Spain midfielder Rodri as the Most Valuable Player, MVP, at 2024 Euro.
Oliseh said this after Rodri’s impressive performance in Spain’s 2-1 win against host nation in the quarterfinal tie played on Friday.
TOTAL SPORTS reports that Dani Olmo gave Spain the the lead in the 51st minute before Florian Wirtz drew level for Germany.
But Mikel Merino scored a late winning goal a minute before the end of extra time to send La Roja to the semifinals where they will face France, who defeated Portugal.
Rodri played for the entire duration of the match.
He ended the game with 92 touches of the ball, completed 94% of his passes, and also won nine of 16 ground duels he contested.
Reacting to Rodri’s performance, Oliseh, in a tweet on X after the game, said: “For me, the MVP of the Euros, so far, Rodri !! I have never seen a Spanish central Defensive midfielder interprete this role in this way.
“Sad for my German friends who put up a great fight, but Spain is really special!! The Spanish dominate play with youngsters & tactics!”
