Sports Newspapers: 5 things you need to know this Sunday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Sports Newspapers:

  1. England and the Netherland became the lastest two teams to booked their places in the semi-final of the Euro 2024 on Saturday. Both countries defeated the likes of Switzerland and Turkey, respectively in the quarter-final stage.
  2. Andy Murray’s Wimbledon career is over after Emma Raducanu pulled out of their planned appearance in the mixed doubles. The former world number one, Murray, was due to play alongside his fellow Briton on Saturday evening at the All England Club.
  3. Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic came from a set down to book his place in the Wimbledon fourth round with victory over Australia’s Alexei Popyrin. After a slow start on Centre Court, Djokovic, who has 24 Grand Slam titles, won 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-3).
  4. George Russell edged out Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren’s Lando Norris to secure pole position for Sunday’s British GP as the race’s three home drivers waged an intense fight to head the grid amid on-off rain at Silverstone. Russell, who won last week’s Austrian GP after profiting from the collision between Norris and Max Verstappen, took his second pole in four races by a 0.171s margin from Hamilton with a brilliant final lap of 1:25.819 just moments after his team-mate had briefly moved to the top of the timesheet himself.
  5. Top seed Iga Swiatek suffered a shock third-round exit at Wimbledon as she fell to world number 35 Yulia Putintseva. Putintseva fought back from a set down to stun Poland’s Swiatek 3-6 6-1 6-2.
