- The head of the Colombian Football Federation, Ramón Jesurún, and his son have been arrested, following a brawl at Sunday’s Copa América final in Miami. Mr Ramón, 71, and Ramón Jamil, 43, were held on charges of battery involving an official or an employee, said the Miami-Dade Police Department.
- Three-time winner Michael van Gerwen beat teenager Luke Littler 10-6 in the opening round of the World Matchplay in Blackpool. Van Gerwen, who has been world champion three times, has been below his best in 2024 but showed glimpses of brilliance to brush aside Littler.
- Britain’s Cameron Norrie beat Jozef Kovalik 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 in the first round of the Swedish Open. A tight first set in which neither player managed to engineer a break point on the clay went to a tiebreak.
- Michael van Gerwen beat Luke Littler 10-6 in their eagerly-anticipated first-round clash at the World Matchplay on Monday. In the 10th meeting between the pair, Van Gerwen proved his critics wrong after a run of disappointing form this year and denied Littler a first win on debut at the Winter Gardens.
- Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino and Lee Carsley are all on the FA’s list of possible candidates to replace Gareth Southgate, if he decides to leave his role as England manager. The 53-year-old is expected to consider his future over the coming days
