Olympics 2024: Someone so tiny – Lacombe blasts Messi over reaction to Argentina defeat

Brazilian football pundit, Milly Lacombe has hits out at Inter Miami captain, Lionel Messi over his reaction to the Argentina U-23 team’s defeat to Morocco in the Olympics opening match in Paris on July 24.

The game initially ended in a 2-2 draw and had to be suspended due to security reasons.

VAR later ruled that Cristian Medina was in an offside position when he netted the goal that made it 2-2 for Argentina.

Argentina’s senior national team captain, Lionel Messi took to Instagram to write, “insolito” on his story, which loosely translates to “unusual.”

Speaking to UOL Esporte, Milly Lacombe wondered how Messi could not condemn his teammates’ racist chants directed at France.

She slammed the former Barcelona forward for remaining silent about his teammates’ behaviour which trended on social media after their Copa America triumph.

“This Messi who rushed to social networks on vacation to show indignation with the refereeing at the Olympics was the same one who fell silent when his teammates sang the racist song after winning the Copa America. What about someone so tiny?” Lacombe said.

“It is not certain if Messi was present or if he sang. But it doesn’t matter. Messi is the greatest football player in the world, the absolute leader of this team, and he would have to speak out in an official and forceful way. Silent. He chickened out. It became tiny,” she added
