Champions League: He was EPL best player, we need him – Guardiola on Man City star

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has said Phil Foden is ready to make an impact this season.

Foden has struggled so far to replicate the heights of last term, where he scored 28 goals for club and country.

The England midfielder was named PFA Player of the Year in recognition of his displays.

This campaign, Foden has started four of his five matches on the bench, with his only start coming against Watford in the Carabao Cup.

Speaking ahead of City’s Champions League clash trip to Slovakia to face Slovan Bratislava, Guardiola said: “Don’t forget after the Euros he didn’t have any training for two months, he had problems with some niggles and some problems in his health.

“But now he is smiling and he’s in his rhythm.

“He was the best player in the Premier League last season so we need him, he was important for us, but I have no doubts with his love for football and his training and passion, he will be back.”
