Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, ‘blocked’ head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s request to sign striker Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, Relevo reports.
Ancelotti had made the England captain his top target ahead of this season.
It is believed signing Kane was even a bigger priority for Ancelotti than landing Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.
Ancelotti was looking to replace Karim Benzema, who left Madrid as a free agent to join Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
But Perez refused to sanction the move, as he has set his eyes on signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this year.
Perez was willing to let the Los Blancos play without a real number nine, before signing Mbappe on a free transfer.
Kane ended up joining Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and has scored 42 goals in all competitions for them.
He has also helped Thomas Tuchel’s team to the Champions League semi-finals, where they will face against Real Madrid.
