In a clash marked by controversy, Arsenal’s Kai Havertz has revealed what he told Bournemouth goalkeeper after a controversial penalty decision during both teams’ Premier League clash on Saturday.
Arsenal defeated Bournemouth 3-0 at Emirates Stadium to temporarily open a four-point lead at the summit of the Premier League, showcasing their mettle against the formidable Cherries.
However, just before halftime, the deadlock was shattered as Bukayo Saka calmly converted from the penalty spot, leaving Bournemouth custodian Mark Travers stranded.
Yet, the award of the penalty sparked ire among the Cherries, who contested Havertz’s alleged initiation of contact before going down.
Addressing the contentious decision post-match, Havertz maintained his stance, asserting that Travers had indeed made contact, thus justifying his fall.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Havertz remarked, “I mean I haven’t seen the replay but he touches me. In the situation, I felt the contact and that’s why I went down. For me, it’s a pen, and I said to the goalkeeper as well, you touched me, he understood on the pitch. Maybe it’s not that clear, but I think you can give it for sure.”
