AFCON 2025 qualifier: Why we lost 3-0 to Nigeria’s Super Eagles – Benin coach, Rohr

The head coach of Benin Republic, Gernot Rohr, has reflected on their 3-0 defeat to Nigeria in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.

The Cheetahs had edged the Super Eagles 2-1 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in June this year.

But on Saturday, the three-time African champions proved to be too strong for them.

Ademola Lookman scored in either half, while Victor Osimhen also got a goal at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Speaking on the game, Rohr said: “We managed to beat them in Abidjan.

“It gave them extra motivation to seek revenge, which is normal.

“And at home, in addition, with the stars present today who weren’t there last time, captain Ekong, Aina and Osimhen made difference.”
