Arsene Wenger reveals regrets after Gareth Southgate’s resignation

Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has spoken about a big “regret” he has following Gareth Southgate’s resignation as England manager.

Southgate left the role a day after the Three Lions lost 2-1 to Spain in Euro 2024 final.

Weeks later, Wenger has said he wishes he had spoken with him to take more time to consider his future.

Speaking at the Olympic Gala of Champions, Wenger said: “I saw [Southgate] just after the final and I forgot to tell him: ‘Don’t make a quick decision’, because when you lose such a big final, you always think in the next 48 hours you will resign.

“So that’s the only regret I have.”

England are yet to name a replacement for Southgate, despite several coaches being linked with the job.
