EPL: Chelsea drops pursuit of McKenna for head coach role, only two options left

Chelsea have decided to end their pursuit of Kieran McKenna as their new head coach.

McKenna, who has gained recognition for leading Ipswich Town back to the Premier League with consecutive promotions, was considered a strong contender after Mauricio Pochettino’s departure last week.

Despite initial discussions and considerable admiration for McKenna, Chelsea have chosen to focus on other candidates.

According to The Athletic, the club’s shortlist now includes Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca and Brentford’s Thomas Frank, with Roberto De Zerbi also being linked to the position.

McKenna, previously an assistant coach at Manchester United, is attracting interest from Brighton and his former club, United.

Ipswich Town hopes to secure McKenna with a new contract, but he appears poised for a new challenge.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag, who recently led Manchester United to FA Cup victory, is reportedly at risk of losing his job despite the triumph.
