Chelsea discreetly inked an undisclosed agreement with Romelu Lukaku’s representative last year, paving the way for the striker’s imminent departure from the club this summer.
As revealed by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues will uphold a firm stance, demanding a £38 million (€44 million) transfer fee for Lukaku during the forthcoming window.
This exit clause was meticulously crafted and mutually assented upon by both parties in the preceding summer.
Currently on a temporary stint at Roma, Lukaku’s fate hangs in the balance as the Serie A outfit holds the option to activate the clause, securing his services permanently for the 2024/2025 campaign.
Despite interest from various Saudi Pro League teams, Lukaku’s prolific loan spell with Roma, tallying 20 goals and four assists in 44 appearances across all competitions under the guidance of Daniele De Rossi, amplifies his allure on the transfer market.
