Former Manchester United stalwart, Gary Neville, has suggested that Manchester City might secure the Premier League crown before the final match-day of the season.
Despite Arsenal maintaining their top spot after a convincing 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, City swiftly responded with a resounding 5-1 triumph against Wolves.
The Gunners hold a slender one-point advantage over the reigning champions as they approach the last fixtures of the campaign.
Notably, City are scheduled to play Fulham next, while Arsenal face off against United at Old Trafford.
Neville, speaking on his podcast, expressed his apprehension regarding the potential outcome of the title race, stating, “It might come down to the wire, but if it does, it would mean Arsenal clinched a remarkable victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford.”
Neville emphasized the significance of such a feat for Arsenal’s season, acknowledging the remarkable improvement in their performance compared to the previous campaign.
However, he admitted his concern that City’s relentless form could lead to an early conclusion of the title race, especially if they secure a victory against Fulham and United manage to take points off Arsenal.
Neville concluded by highlighting the inevitability of City’s excellence in the closing stages of the season.
“So, yeah, I have the fear that the title could be over a week on Tuesday when in terms of sort of the neutrals, I am neutral when it comes to it, I don’t support City or Arsenal, but I want the title race to go to the final day, obviously. My fear is that it won’t if City win against Fulham on Saturday, which I think they will, and that United take points off Arsenal on Sunday,” Neville said.
