Former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, has suggested that his former club should consider appointing Thomas Tuchel to manage the team if the Red Devils were to sack manager Erik ten Hag at the end of the season.
Ten Hag’s future at Man United is uncertain due to the club’s performances this season.
The Dutchman is under pressure at Old Trafford after they missed out of the UEFA Champions League next season following a 1-1 draw with Burnley at the weekend.
The likes of Tuchel, Zinedine Zidane, Ruben Amorim, Gareth Southgate and Roberto De Zerbi have been linked to take over from Ten Hag at United.
However, Schmeichel feels Tuchel, who will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, has authority and pedigree to coach a team like Man United.
“I like Thomas Tuchel. I have had the pleasure of interviewing him a couple of times and his football knowledge is fantastic,” Schmeichel told beIN SPORTS amid the speculation.
“I just like him, there’s something about him. He projects an authority.”
Asked whether Tuchel is the sort of manager who would fit in at Man United, Schmeichel added, “If Manchester United were in the market for a manager then he should be somebody mentioned in that respect. He should be.
“He has that kind of pedigree, he’s got the authority, he is proven he can win which I think is really important.
“He doesn’t come with a set system, “This is how our football is being played”… yeah, of course, he’s a big-club manager, isn’t he?
