Liverpool attacker, Darwin Nunez has said it’s a shame that Jurgen Klopp left the club at the end of the 2023/24 season.
The Uruguay international also said that the club was caught off guard by the unexpected departure of long-time manager Klopp.
Recall that Klopp stepped down from his role at Anfield after a remarkable nine-season tenure.
Since taking the reins in October 2015, the German transformed Liverpool from a mid-table side to a dominant force in both England and Europe.
Under his leadership, the Reds secured every major trophy available, except for the UEFA Europa League. Nonetheless, earlier this year, Klopp announced his decision to leave at the season’s end, citing burnout.
Nunez reflected on the situation, sharing his surprise and the sentiment within the team (as reported by El Pais):
“We were all a little shocked by Klopp’s departure. No one expected it. It is a shame that he is leaving. I personally would like him to leave in a big way, winning things, and it didn’t happen that way.
” It’s also a shame for the players. I wish him the best in the world.”
Klopp’s final season saw Liverpool clinch the EFL Cup and secure a third-place finish in the Premier League.
