Manchester City want Xabi Alonso as their new head coach if Pep Guardiola doesn’t renew his contract with the Premier League Champions.
According to Diario AS, Man City will have to battle Real Madrid, who are also interested in Alonso as well.
Guardiola’s currently contract with Manchester City will expire in the summer of 2025.
The 53-year-old is yet to extend his deal with the Cityzens.
Alonso, meanwhile, is the current manager of Bayer Leverkusen.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder is keen to remain at Leverkusen beyond this year after guilding the club to win the Bundesliga title recently.
He was linked with a move to Liverpool to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, but the Spainaird ruled out any possibility of leaving his current club.
