Former England striker, Wayne Rooney has claimed that Newcastle United were denied a crucial penalty in their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Goals from Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund gave Man United the victory over Newcastle at Old Trafford.
But a controversy arose during the encounter when Sofyan Amrabat, after losing possession, seemed to clip Anthony Gordon inside the penalty area.
However, referee Rob Jones and the VAR team ruled there was insufficient contact for a penalty.
Rooney, however, disagreed with the officials’ decision, telling Sky Sports, “That was a penalty in my opinion. Casemiro makes a solid tackle, but Amrabat clearly catches Gordon’s left heel. Newcastle were very unfortunate.”
