EPL: Rio Ferdinand urges INEOS, Ratcliffe to support mass clear-out of players at Man Utd

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has called on the club’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS to back a drastic summer clear-out of players at Old Trafford following controversy surrounding Alejandro Garnacho.

Ferdinand labelled Garnacho’s actions in liking a social media post criticising manager Erik ten Hag as “distasteful”.

The former England defender urged INEOS, the club’s owners, to support a wider shift in culture at United and to take action against players who do not fit the club’s values.

“I hate even talking about this but you see Garnacho liking a tweet the other day,” Ferdinand said on FIVE podcast.

“It was distasteful and shouldn’t be liked in public, even if he does agree with it. Normally, the culture would set whether the kid makes that decision or not.”

He added, “INEOS, they’ve cleared the decks at the top, now they need to clear the decks at the bottom with the players.

“There are players in there who aren’t good enough, don’t know what it is to be a Man United player. There hasn’t been a culture that’s been set in there. There needs to be a new DNA set and the reset starts at the top with the new people who have come in.”
