Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta, has shared what Arsene Wenger, the club’s legendary manager who won the Premier League title in 2003/2004 season, told him about the art of winning the title.
As the current table-topping coach leads his team to face Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby on Sunday, Arteta said that he has spoken to Wenger a few times and that he shared his insights about how they won the title and the importance of finding a way to win close games.
Wenger talked about the fine margins and the key players stepping up to make it happen, which Arteta still recalls and tries to apply in his coaching.
“I have spoken to him [Wenger] a few times,” Arteta told reporters ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Tottenham.
“There were certain topics about how they won it and the later stages. He used to talk about that when I was a player. It is always there in the hard drive.
“For this time of the season, at the end it is about finding a way to win the game. And that is it. You can do it in various ways when you look at how they won the titles.
“And how they won certain games with very very, very close margins. He always talked about that, about the fine margins. And who is going to step up on the occasion to make it happen.”
