Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer has condemned Manchester United for leaking news about manager Erik ten Hag’s impending dismissal on the eve of the FA Cup final.
Manchester United reportedly has a shortlist of candidates to replace Ten Hag, with Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna being a top contender.
After a dismal season filled with record-breaking lows, United’s decision-makers feel justified in ending Ten Hag’s tenure.
However, Shearer criticized the timing and manner of the speculation, accusing club co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the board of lacking class.
Speaking to the BBC, the former England captain said, “I think he’s been treated with disrespect. I think it’s been wrong.
“I think the silence is deafening from the owners who have this great business who are brilliant at business who brought all the top guys into different positions.
“But no-one has said a word to or about his job, whether it’s safe or whether it’s not. I think from a human point of view it’s wrong.”
