FA Cup final: Manchester United decide on sacking Erik ten Hag

Manchester United have resolved to part ways with manager Erik ten Hag regardless of the outcome of this weekend’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Saturday’s final at Wembley was seen not only as United’s last opportunity for silverware this season but also as Ten Hag’s final chance to earn the backing of the Old Trafford leadership.

Despite making it to the FA Cup final, where they will face local rivals and Premier League champions Manchester City, United’s performance under Ten Hag in his second season has been largely disappointing, culminating in an eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

This marked Manchester United’s worst league performance in 34 years.

Ten Hag’s team also set negative records, including the most losses in a Premier League season for United and ending with a negative goal difference for the first time since 1990.

According to The Guardian, even a victory in the FA Cup will not be enough to save Ten Hag’s job, as new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to appoint a new manager this summer.

Potential candidates for the role include former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Brentford’s Thomas Frank, and former Chelsea managers Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter.
