After Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City at the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday, club legend Frank Lampard showed his support for striker, Nicolas Jackson, who missed several goal opportunities.
The Blues failed to score a goal as Pep Guardiola’s side secured a 1-0 victory, thanks to Bernardo Silva’s goal that sent them through to the final.
Lampard expressed that he empathized with the young Senegal international, who demonstrated his powerful pace and great movement throughout the game.
However, Lampard acknowledged that there was room for enhancing his technical skills and decision-making in high-stakes games.
Despite the loss, the former England international urged Jackson and other young players to set their sights high on playing at the highest level while emphasizing that the leading striker for Chelsea must perform at an outstanding level.
“The extra touch, the decision making at the highest level in these highest level of games are the difference,” Lampard said as quoted by Metro UK.
“The header, you hit anywhere but his body it’s a goal. Little decision making, I feel for him, we have all been there, we have all missed chances and it is a critical one for the game.
“But as a young player that is the level that you have to be a striker for Chelsea.”
