Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has insisted that his side’s penalty shoot-out victory over Coventry in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday was a huge achievement and not embarrassing.
Man United had a three-goal lead by the 71st minute against Coventry at Wembley Stadium.
But the game ended 3-3 with Haji Wright converting a last-gasp penalty.
The Championship team had a late goal ruled out in extra time, before the Red Devils went on to win on penalties.
Speaking at his post-match interview, Ten Hag was asked whether it was embarrassing to win the match in the way they did against Coventry who had lost three of their previous four games.
The Dutchman replied: “No, I can’t see that. At the end of the day it is about achievement. I see the mistakes we make, but it’s not an embarrassment, it’s a huge achievement.
“[The players] see that there are mixed feelings. We allowed them to return in the game and it is completely unnecessary.”
