Chelsea midfielder, Enzo Fernandez has apologized to Argentina’s Under-23 coach Javier Mascherano, as he won’t be able to participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Fernandez is currently with the senior Albiceleste side at the ongoing 2024 Copa America in the United States.
The 22-year-old, who helped Argentina secured a spot in the knock-out stage, said that he had the approval of former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino to play the Olympics.
But a change of coach in the summer, meant that Chelsea revoked their permission to let Fernandez play the Olympics.
Speaking on the development, Fernandez said as per Fabrizio Romano:
“I did everything possible to be there, Pochettino had given me the ok… there was a change of coach, and the club changed its position.
“I did everything possible to be there. I apologise to Mascherano.”
