Former Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has announced his inclusion in the World IX team slated to face England in Soccer Aid for UNICEF’s charitable fixture, marking a nostalgic return to Stamford Bridge for the ex-Nigeria international.
Mikel Obi disclosed this in a post via his Instagram account on Friday.
Confirmed as part of the Soccer Aid lineup, the 37-year-old veteran, who adorned the Blues’ jersey from 2006 to 2017, securing prestigious titles like the Premier League and Champions League, prepares to grace the hallowed turf once again.
The Soccer Aid charity game will take place on Sunday, June 9.
Transitioning from on-field brilliance to diverse off-pitch endeavors post-retirement, Mikel Obi has ventured into realms such as podcast hosting and guest appearances at esteemed award ceremonies.
Mikel Obi retired from professional football on 27 September 2022 at the age of 35.
