- Carlos Alcaraz saw his hopes of a hat-trick of titles at the Madrid Open ended in stunning fashion by Andrey Rublev on Wednesday. Rublev earned the biggest win of his career on clay by defeating Alcaraz 4-6 6-3 6-2 under the roof of Manolo Santana Stadium.
- The UEFA Europa League semifinals first leg fixtures will commence tonight. AS Roma will host Bayer Leverkusen, while Marseille will tackle Atalanta.
- Seven-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump both suffered shock defeats in the quarter-finals of the World Championship. O’Sullivan fell to a 13-10 loss against Stuart Bingham, while world number two Trump was beaten 13-9 by Jak Jones.
- Former captain Steve Smith has been left out of Australia’s squad for June’s T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA. The 34-year-old’s exclusion comes after after a poor run of form against New Zealand in February, when he made scores of 11 and four.
