Sports Newspapers: 5 things you need to know this Tuesday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Sports Newspapers:

  1. Mattia Zaccagni scored in the final minute of stoppage time as Italy broke Croatia’s hearts with a late equaliser that ensures the defending champions progress to the last 16 of Euro 2024. Luka Modric had thought he had won it for Croatia to send them through as runners-up in Group B when he slammed a shot into the roof of the net early in the second half.
  2. American Olympic swimmer Michael Brinegar has been handed a four-year ban for blood doping. The United States Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) said Brinegar, 24, had irregularities between July to September 2022 found in his Athlete Biological Passport.
  3. Australia’s T20 World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread after Rohit Sharma’s scintillating 92 led India to a 24-run win in St Lucia. India finish top of Super 8s Group 1 with a perfect record and will face defending champions England in the semi-finals in Guyana on Thursday.
  4. Spain on Monday maintained their hundred percent record at Euro 2024 as they defeated and eliminated Albania – a result that meant England, France and the Netherlands all secured last-16 places. Barcelona forward Ferran Torres gave a much-changed Spain side the lead in the 13th minute, finishing low first time from Dani Olmo’s pass with the ball bouncing in off the post.
  5. Brazil missed a string of chances and were left to rue a lack of quality in the final third after they were held 0-0 by Costa Rica in their Copa América Group D opener in Los Angeles on Monday. Brazil, who came into the Copa América on the back of a run of poor results in recent months, dominated possession but lacked precision in front of goal with just three of their 19 shots on target.
