Sports Newspapers: 5 things you need to know this Wednesday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Sports Newspapers:

  1. The fixtures for the 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two seasons will be released today (Wednesday) at 9am. Recall that the 2023/24 campaigns had ended dew weeks ago.
  2. Anthony Joshua is expected to fight Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight belt after Oleksandr Usyk confirmed he was vacating the world title. Usyk defeated Tyson Fury on points to become undisputed champion with the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF titles, but has now announced he will relinquish his IBF belt ahead of a planned fight between Joshua and Dubois at Wembley Stadium on September 21.
  3. England moved into Euro 2024’s last 16 at the top of Group C – but it was only achieved after another drab display with a draw against Slovenia in Cologne. Gareth Southgate’s side offered up slightly more than in the abysmal performance against Denmark but once again it was nowhere good enough to justify England’s status as pre-tournament favourites.
  4. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied it held talks with French tactician Herve Renard for the vacant Super Eagles coaching job. Reports had emerged online that the NFF are in contact with Renard to become the Super Eagles head coach.
“This report is inaccurate. We’ve not contacted Renard or his reps,” a top official told of the NFF told BBC Africa.
  5. Real Madrid on Tuesday announced the departure of Nacho Fernandez from the club after 23 years at Santiago Bernabeu. Nacho is now expected to move to Saudi Arabia in the coming days after his decision to part ways with Real Madrid.
