Chelsea are reportedly ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign 22-year-old midfielder Amadou Onana.
Onana, who currently plays for Everton, has been a key player for the Premier League side this season.
He has made 32 appearances across competitions, scoring three goals and providing an assist.
His contract with Everton will expire in 2027, but with the Premier League club mired by financial woes, they have set an asking price of €70 million for their player, as per SPORT via (Barca Universal).
However, considering Barcelona’s own well-documented financial troubles, Onana’s asking price effectively rules the Spanish La Liga club from the race for his services.
Everton have reportedly ruled out exchange of players – which would have reduced Barcelona’s net outflow in the proposed deal.
The report added that Chelsea have entered the fray for Onana and have made an initial offer to Everton for the defensive midfielder.
However, it is not clear if the Blues have met Everton’s’ valuation.
