Bayern Munich manager, Thomas Tuchel has clarified his daring decision to replace Harry Kane in his side’s Champions League semifinal loss to Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Bayern appeared poised to secure an all-German final as Alphonso Davies propelled the Tuchel’s ahead 3-2 on aggregate at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Real Madrid orchestrated a late resurgence, stunning Bayern Munich and advancing to the final in pursuit of their 15th European Cup, thanks to Joselu’s brace.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, previously instrumental with several remarkable saves, faltered in the dying moments, spilling a routine catch and enabling Joselu to level the score in the 88th minute.
Explaining his decision to replaced Kane with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Tuchel told TNT Sports:
“We started with a front four and all four has to go out with injury or cramp.
“Kane was having back problems, it was no longer possible. The front four all said they had to go.”
